Feels Like Home
It feels so nice to spend my evening blogging! I can’t tell you how at home I feel sitting in front of my computer recapping my day. I’ve definitely missed this. In my large recap I forgot to mention something I bought last week.
Anybody love a good bargain story? I went to an outlet with my family and Andrew last week. It was mostly Waterford Crystal but they also had a huge selection of Dr. Weil kitchen products. I bought this brand new juice extractor and am so happy with my purchase. The exact one I got is The Dr. Weil 9806 The Healthy Kitchen Stainless-Steel 2-Speed Pro Juice Extractor. If you look on Amazon the MSRP is $375 and they have it on sale for $243. I did even better then that, much better! I got this juicer for only 70 bucks! And so far it has worked perfectly. I’ve never had another juicer to compare it to, and I’m not sure if it’s better then some of the top brands, but it is good. The pulp seems really very dry and I’ve had no issues with it. Of course it’s only been a week but so far so good.
My kitchen essentials!
I’ve loved experimenting with the juicer, and of course I went right to the blogger who I felt could help me the most with my new juicer and help me come up with a plan for a “mini cleanse”. I sent Gena of Choosing Raw an email and she got back to me immediately with some great tips. Thanks so much for all your help Gena.
I started today with my favorite juice so far. It has all my favorite flavors and I really enjoy the fresh taste, I looked at many recipes and came up with one that tastes great.
- 1 carrot ( I will increase this I think tomorrow to 2 or 3)
- 2 apples
- 1 lemon
- 1 inch piece of ginger
- 1 romaine heart
- Large handful of spinach
The flavor is out of this world!
I wasn’t sure if I could handle just juice until lunch time, but this combo kept me satisfied until lunch time. It’s not the same as being full after a bowl of oatmeal, but the hunger stayed away until about 11:30 and I broke for lunch at noon.
My lunch today was a big salad, the pictures don’t really do it justice it really is very big.
Very green! I had another whole head of lettuce, a cucumber, and 3 stalks of celery, with balsamic vinaigrette. Gena suggested having an avocado with my salad but there not something I ever have on hand, I’m not sure I like them to be honest, but I’m definitely going to buy one tomorrow and mix it in with my salads soon.
Around 4 I got hungry and I snacked on my first honeycrisp apple of the year! I was so excited to see these at the store, but why do they have to be so expensive!?
And yeah I wore jeans to work on a Tuesday, I’m a rebel. This apple was just a delicious as I remembered.
For dinner it was kind of a “whatever sounded good to me at the time meal”
I had brown rice:
Roasted potatoes with a small amount of EVOO (using the Misto) and sea salt:
Greenbeans and broccoli steamed:
All together:
Although these pictures are outside, it was gray and cold, so I took this plate back inside and happily gobbled down every last bite.
Now I’m just waiting for Andrew to come home so I can spend some much needed quality time with him. I also have a little bit of kitchen cleanup to take care of from dinner.
Thanks for the warm welcome back, I’ve missed chatting with you girls!
An Al Fresco Dinner
What a day! I woke up thinking it was Thursday and thought that until I was on my way to work. Since we don’t work Fridays anymore Thursday is our dress down day so I went to work wearing jeans and everything. It was obvious to everyone at work I had mixed up what day I thought it was. Ugh. But oh well I was comfortable all day at least.
I started out the day with something I haven’t had in so long, unfortunately in my hurry this morning I forgot my camera but I do have some pretty bad blackberry photos to share.
Peach Chobani! In addition to forgetting my camera I also forgot some cereal for mixing into the yogurt. But it was still amazingly delicious, it’s been to long Peach Chobani!
Without the cereal though this didn’t do a great job of holding me over for lunch. I wound up getting hungry around 10 and snacked on some Dr. Kracker’s Cherry Semolina crisps. These are absolutely delicious!
The serving size is 8 but I probably had about 12, they are so delicious.
Lunch today was an old favorite, rice pilaf, green beans, and broccoli all mixed together.
What a horrible picture of one of my favorite flavor combos. I can’t get enough of it I crave this at least once a week.
After work Andrew and I decided to go out to eat. It’s been a while since we went out just the 2 of us for dinner so we went to our favorite local restaurant, Harborside Bar and Grill. It was a beautiful day so we got to enjoy being outside on the patio. To start I had a house salad with balsamic dressing on the side.
I used about a 1/4 of the dressing with my fork dips before almost every bite. It’s amazing but before I would have easily used 1/2 of it or more, dipping the fork in is just as flavorful and definitely a calorie saver.
Then our waitress brought out some fabulous rolls. I of course had one.
Warm and doughy, it was perfect.
For dinner I had the Rigatoni Pomadora, a fresh tomato basil sauce, with rigatoni and fresh mozzarella balls throughout.
This sauce is the freshest tasting sauce ever, I don’t think I could make it even 1/2 as good as they do. I would love to be able to buy a jar of this sauce. I have about 1/2 of this left for tomorrows lunch.
After dinner we stopped by to visit my sister and parents since she’s been bugging me for the past 3 days to come over. It was a nice night hanging out on their patio enjoying the weather. After it rained for almost all of May and June, it’s definitely made me appreciate the past 2 weeks, we’ve had the most beautiful sunny, warm days lately, and I’m definitely grateful for them!
Too Fast
This weekend flew right by me! After I posted Friday night (early Saturday morning really), I went right to bed. I woke up pretty early and felt the beginnings of a nasty sinus headache. Apparently my 3 glasses of wine aggravated my allergies. After doing some research online I realized that there is a pretty good link between wine and sinuses. I knew that drinking 3 glasses could not have kept me in bed until 4:30 yesterday afternoon but was surprised at how ill I felt. Luckily I did feel much better around 4:30 and went to a friend’s college graduation party. It was a lot of fun and I stuck to water (and lots and lots of it, probably 5 or 6 bottles worth) to combat the dehydration from the decongestants I had taken earlier in the day.
This morning I woke up feeling 100% better and won’t be drinking any wine for a while, just to keep that from happening again. I had a gigantic bowl of cereal this morning.
365 high fiber and kashi island vanilla mixed with skim milk, what a perfect bowl of cereal!
After breakfast we hung around the house, and then got ready to go to the movies. We had decided to catch a matinee of The Hangover. Oh my, I am so happy we went! It was so funny, I’m kinda considering seeing it again. Did anyone else see and love this movie as much as I did?
We did get some popcorn to share but it was obviously to dark to snap a picture of it. After the movies we had some errands to run and then went to my parents house for dinner. We had my usual Sunday night Favorite. Roast Beef, with Mashed Potatoes, and Broccoli!
All together:
Perfect as usual!
I know I once again skipped a meal, but to be honest I slept kinda late today, and I ate some popcorn so although I should have planned ahead better for lunch, I’m happy I didn’t go hours without eating, although something more nutritious would have been nice.
I’m off to do a few things before bed time! Let’s hope Monday flies by!
Rainy Day Giveaway
I’m so excited to have my first giveaway! Let’s get the eats out of the way first.
After blogging yesterday I had a banana with pb.
You probably didn’t notice but the house we’re renting has the same plates my mom has at her house. Weird.
Then Andrew and I did some more shopping. The rain never really slowed down yesterday so we watched Little Miss Sunshine after returning until dinner time.
For dinner we were going to have grilled chicken but with the rain my dad didn’t feel like going outside to cook, so we baked it in the oven, it was marinated in Italian dressing.
On the side we had broccoli and Near East Wild Rice in the Garlic and Herb flavor.
Perfect dinner!
And to drink with dinner I had:
Last night we went to bed nice and early, when I woke up this morning it was raining again. The good news is the weather is supposed to be really nice the rest of the week, so we used today to do some more shopping. Before we left I had a Peach Chobani with cereal.
I love cereal/yogurt messes.
We went to do some more shopping today at the outlets. In addition to some clothes that I purchased, my SUPER wonderful mom bought me a gorgeous new Coach bag!
I love the blue color! I have the best mom!
Between stores I had a Clif Chocolate Chip Z bar.
On top of my Coach bag from last year.
Andrew and I also made a special purchase today. I’d like to introduce you to our new pet, Geoffrey.
He is a Hermit Crab with a Giraffe painted shell. Giraffes are by far my favorite animal and if I can’t have one of those as a pet, a hermit crab with a giraffe shell will have to do. Apparently he is tired from an exciting day he was climbing on the side of his cage for a while on the way home but now he’s sleeping, I’m sure you’ll see plenty of pictures of Geoffrey in the future.
For lunch we stopped at Sonic. We don’t have any Sonic’s near us so everyone wanted to try it, I was going to wait until we got home to eat but we still had more shopping to do. So I got a grilled chicken sandwich with no mayo.
It looks like a whole wheat bun but I can’t be sure. It was pretty good.
Now that I have caught you all up on the past few meals it’s time for…
My First Giveaway!
One of my favorite things about vacation is buying my friends souvenirs. It’s always so fun to come home from vacation and share something from your time away with your friends. You girls have all been really good friends to me since I started this blog back in January so although I can’t buy something for everyone I’d like to give you each the chance to have some great souvenirs from The Outer Banks! I bought a few things to give to one lucky reader.
Here’s each item in the giveaway.
First up is a T-Shirt. It’s a size small but it looks like it would fit most people, if you win and you require a different size I will gladly exchange it before sending it to you. It looks pink but it is tan with green writing.
The next thing is a magnet clip.
The next item is a coffee mug.
And the last 2 items are some local treats.
I love salt water taffy and I found a cute little tote bag stuffed with some salt water taffy.
Last part of the package is a can of nuts from a local shop that’s called Try My Nuts. I picked out a can of peanuts called Dirty Nuts. They are seasoned with salt, paprika, black pepper, garlic, onion, and chipotle. I was able to sample them while at the store yesterday and I can tell you they are really delicious.
Here’s the package all together.
I am on the lookout for a nice big tote bag for the winner as well so I’ll be adding that to the prize as well, and will share it with you as soon as I find and buy it.
I’m giving you a couple ways to win:
- Leave a comment (on this post!) telling me your favorite vacation spot.
- Link back to this on your blog, if you don’t have a blog send me an email at 365healthyeats@gmail.com, be sure to let me know if you linked it in the comment section.
So there you go! I’ll announce the winner Friday afternoon so you have plenty of time to enter!
Fun In The Sun
Yesterday it got up to 79 degrees, I spent almost the whole day outside enjoying the warm weather, I didn’t blog because I tried to just spend the day outside and we wound up going out last night with some friends and I didn’t get home until late. So I have a lot to catch up on.
After I posted on Friday Andrew and I took a ride to a school for Andrew to drop off his resume. Once we returned we hung out on the deck for a little and then we started to bbq up some turkey burgers.
I put some mozzarella cheese on mine.
It was cooked perfectly. It was 4 ounces of very lean ground turkey, I of course had a pickle and ketchup on it. On the side I also had some corn.
I opened a bag of pop chips but only had like 4 of them because by the time I finished my burger and my 2 helpings of corn I was no longer hungry, they were put away for another day.
I had some great company while eating.
After dinner some of our friends came over to hang out on the deck, unfortunately once the sun went down the wind picked up and it got pretty chilly. It was a pretty fun night for the most part.
We woke up nice and early Saturday morning because Andrew had to go to work at the pharmacy. I made a smoothie and enjoyed it out in the sun with the Self Magazine I got last week and finally got around to reading.
This smoothie contained:
- skim milk
- 1 banana
- blueberries
- peach slices
- 1 scoop protein powder
- 1/2 a cup of oats
I had a chiropractors appointment which I went to with my mom and then came home around 1 and decided to eat one of the leftover turkey burgers from the night before. The sun was so bright that I couldn’t see the screen on my camera so I kinda hoped for the best when snapping pictures.
Obviously I didn’t get a good one because of my shadow.
On the side I had 4 sweet peppers.
After spending the rest of the day outside we decided to go out to dinner to Chili’s. We ordered the tostatdo chips and salsa to start, and between the 2 of us we didn’t even finish them. (And I forgot to take a picture so here’s a picture from the Chili’s website).
For my dinner I ordered off the guiltless grill menu. I got a grilled chicken buffalo sandwich without the ranch dressing, and with steamed veggies on the side.
It was delicious and the website has it listed at 386 calories but that includes the ranch so I’m guessing it was less then that. In the background you can see Andrew’s fries, I took about 5 of them.
Dinner was great but the chips were so salty I felt dehydrated all night!
After dinner we went bowling ( I didn’t bowl but I went with everyone) and then we went to a little cafe that sells gelato, Andrew got a mint chocolate chip gelato which I gladly took a small spoonful of it was so good.
This morning for breakfast I cooked up some whole wheat pancakes, and used a little syrup on them.
Now we’re off to run some errands and then go to my parents house to spend some time with them. I’ll be back after dinner, tonight is warm but overcast and a little windy so we’ll still be spending some time outdoors just not in shorts like we were the past couple days!
Enjoy the rest of your Sunday see you after dinner!
Time Flies…
When you’re having fun, and this was one of the best weekends I’ve had in a long time. Between my birthday celebration last night and my trip to the city for the Blogger brunch today, it was full weekend, but a really great one!
Let’s start with my pictures from last night.
Before we went out to the bar, Laura and her fiancé Billy came over. Somehow my favorite pickles became the topic of conversation and Laura wanted to try one. I gave her my last one because I’m all for sharing the pickle love. We of course took pictures.
Right before she tried it.
Chewing and taking in the flavors. But did she like it?
Thumbs up! She shared some with Billy who doesn’t even like pickles (how is that even possible?) and he loved them too!
Then it was time for some presents, Andrew caved and gave me mine last night. He got me two 5lb weights and a beginner’s yoga kit, which included a mat and dvd as well as some other accessories.
Can you tell I was excited to get the weights?
Laura had to give them a try.
I suppose they were too heavy for her. After my friend Jessica and her boyfriend arrived and brought me some birthday balloons, we went off to the bar. I drank way too much, but allowed myself to drink, since I’ve only drank one other time this year so far. I drank diet coke and vodkas.
Laura ordered cheese nachos (that were super cheesy) but I gladly ate a few to help her out.
Andrew ordered Mozzarella sticks and I had a bite of one.
Here’s a picture of me and Andrew.
And here’s one of me Laura and Jessica.
Once I got home last night I fell right to sleep when my alarm went off this morning I was in no mood to get up but I had to get ready to leave for the blogger brunch! We wound up taking the 10:25 train in, took 2 short sub way rides and arrived at Counter at 12:30 we walked around in the vicinity of the restaurant until 1. Can I just say that I seriously have the sweetest boyfriend? He knew how nervous I was and took the train ride to the city with me, calmed me down when I was nervous about meeting everyone, and waited in a park for over 2 hours for me to be done with the brunch. Thank you so much Andrew for being so amazing today and always!! I snacked on a couple bites of a bagel while waiting because in my rush in the morning I totally forgot to eat, (never thought I’d say that). My head was pounding all morning between my sinuses and my drinking last night, so I was just kind of miserable, but the brunch definitely made me feel better! Everyone was so super nice! It was nice getting to talk and listen to people that I’ve read so much about. I was kind of quiet between nerves and not feeling well though.
I ordered French Toast for my meal.
Do you see how thick that slice of bread in the back is? The french toast, I thought was just alright, which might have been a side effect of not feeling well so I ate the slice in the front and passed on some of the second slice to Mark and the rest to Sarah. Mark agreed that it was just okay but I’m so glad I passed it off to Sarah because she seemed to really enjoy it! Next time there’s any blogger event I hope to be able to talk more to both Sarah and Vani. One thing I can say about all the bloggers is they are all super nice and come across just as sweet as they do on their blogs. I also got tons of goodies but forgot to take a picture of them, I haven’t sampled anything yet so I’ll take pictures of those tonight and post those pictures tomorrow.
On the train I ate the rest of the bagel I got, minus the other half I dropped on the ground.
It was a really nice sunny day, here’s a view from the train on the way back.
I used my dad’s monthly train pass to get into the city today so we went to my parents house to drop it off to him. As soon as I walked in I was hit with a fantastic smell. My mom was roasting a whole chicken, and during the meatless lent that has been the only thing I’ve been craving. Whole roasted chicken is my favorite Sunday dinner that my mom makes so it was really hard to resist, but I did it. I have recently heard that you can have whatever you gave up for Lent on Sunday’s but I figure if you’re going to do something, do it right. So I didn’t cave, although I really wanted to. I had all the side dishes though. My mom makes some banging mashed potatoes, after she’s done making them she puts them in the oven under the broiler with a little butter and paprika sprinkled on top.
Drool!
My plate consisted of mashed potatoes:
Broccoli:
And a side salad of just romaine lettuce with a little Light Caesar dressing.
And here’s what I missed out on:
Now I’m ready to lay down and get some sleep. How does riding on a train for a few hours make you so tired? Tomorrow is another busy day I have work all day then out to dinner for my 24th Birthday with my parents and then some ice cream cake and more presents! Goodnight everyone!
Braving the Snow
My gameplan was to not leave the house today, besides to clean off the cars. I was content with staying inside all day reading, commenting, and relaxing. But of course it didn’t go that way. But more on that in a couple minutes.
After I finished posting we went out and cleaned off our cars and dug them out, with a little help from our township, they were coming around on tractors digging people’s cars out and plowing the driveways. Pretty nice for us, but it was still a ton of work. It took us 2 hours to get everything cleaned off. I tried to take some pictures but the now just isn’t as pretty as last time, I think because it was so dark and cloudy out all day.
Once we came back in I made some hot chocolate and some lunch. I had a peanut butter and raspberry preserve on a whole wheat wrap.
I also had some grapes.
I also tried a new treat, which I absolutely loved. I had to get it when I saw it at Whole Foods yesterday. Just look at the name.
Danielle Crispy Fruit Chips. I’m pretty sure it’s a rule if you’re name is on something you have to try it. I’m so glad I did give it a try these were delicious!
They have a bunch of different flavors, but I went for my favorite fruit. I highly highly recommend them, they’re a little pricey at 4 dollars a bag but really good, a great treat.
All together with my hot chocolate.
After lunch I logged on my computer and tried to catch up on some blogs and do some commenting, when Andrew came in to tell me our hot water heater is leaking. Our landlord came up and told us he had to turn the water off, so we won’t have hot water until at least sometime tomorrow if he can get someone here to replace it. So I had to run to my parents house to take a shower so that I could go in to work tomorrow. What is typically at 10 minute drive took us over 1/2 an hour. The roads here are a mess! Ice and snow everywhere still. I’m so nervous to go into work tomorrow, Andrew has a delayed opening and is working his other job in the evening so I can’t go with him, because I’d go in 2 hours late and have to leave 2 hours early. I’m going to have to suck it up and get there somehow. I already have anxiety thinking about my commute tomorrow morning.
Before we went to my parents though I through together a super quick dinner. I’ve seen this brand before on other people’s blogs and decided to give it a try.
I followed the directions to cook, then added steamed broccoli and mini sweet peppers. I ate a serving which is one third of the box. It was really very good, and I’ll definitely be branching out and trying other things the brand has to offer, and buying this one again.
Well I’m going to try to relax for a little while before I get into bed. I’m letting myself get to worked up about work tomorrow, I loaned someone else I work with my laptop on Friday so I don’t even have the option of working from home. Okay I’m sorry, I’m being a major Debbie Downer right now, I’m sure some/most of you had to get to work today in all this snow, sorry to be complaining. Good night everyone! I promise to be in a better mood tomorrow!
Creature of Habit
Hey bloggies! I am in such a better mood then I have been the past few days. This weather today was just ridiculous. Hard to believe last week we had 6 inches of snow here and now it was close to 70 today! Oh my gosh it was gorgeous, I wish I wasn’t at work the whole day but I know that weather like that for everyday life is just around the corner. Tomorrow it’s supposed to be colder and rainy but now that I have a taste of springtime weather I can’t wait for it!!!
I’m glad so many of you have a favorite color M&M you like to eat. I typically get made fun of if someone is eating M&M’s and I ask for an orange one, good to know that many of you have a color preference.
Thank Goodness for the nice weather because my eats were seriously bland and boring today. I really need to mix things up soon.
Breakfast was my “old reliable” vanilla Chobani, with Bear Naked Granola, and dried cranberries.
Big Surprise right?
Well get ready for some real excitement, I had another ww bagel with pb today, but it wasn’t toasted like yesterdays. Just trying to mix it up. I’m in lunch time rut. I also had 2 clementines today. So at least there’s some color there.
Later in the afternoon I had a braeburn apple.
I was starving when I got home, I couldn’t wait for dinner to cook, so I had a string cheese while I got everything ready.
For dinner we had grilled chicken, with brown rice, broccoli, and a side salad.
I ate all the chicken, all the broccoli, and most of the salad and rice.
I need to redeem myself tomorrow. I already made lunch for tomorrow and it’s not a bagel but it’s nothing exciting either. After dinner we went to the gym another good session but my arms are already sore, I can’t imagine what they are going to be like tomorrow!
So Valentine’s day is coming up this Saturday, we’re really late making plans but I believe we’re going to go to Baltimore for the night to hit up the aquarium, does anyone live in or near Inner Harbor Baltimore and have a good suggestion for some great places to eat?
Well I’m off to read and go to sleep, if it was warm where you are today I hope you enjoyed the weather!
